Body of Lies (2008)
Directed and produced by Ridley Scott, and written by William Monahan, Body of Lies (2008) is an American spy action thriller film. In Manchester, England, anti-terrorism police teams are preparing to raid a house. As they enter the house, the terrorists inside hear them and one of them triggers an explosion with a button on his cell phone, destroying the entire house. While tracking a high-ranking terrorist leader named Al-Saleem in Iraq, CIA case officer Roger Ferris encounters Nizar – a member of the terrorist organization who offers information in exchange for asylum in North America. Despite objections from his boss Ed Hoffman, Ferris decides to provide shelter for Nizar. However, this decision puts him in a difficult position when Nizar is used as bait to draw out the rest of his cell. When Nizar is captured, Ferris has no choice but to shoot him before he exposes their identities and that of their associate Bassam.
Enraged by Hoffman’s rejection of Nizar’s provided intelligence on a safe house in Balad, Iraq, Ferris and Bassam embark on a search of the location. As they approach, Ferris notices individuals destroying documents and DVDs. In an attempt to gain access, he employs a tactic of deceit but is quickly exposed. A violent exchange ensues and while fleeing, their vehicle is struck by an RPG. Thankfully, Ferris manages to escape the explosion with the help of a rescue helicopter, however tragically Bassam does not survive. Examining the salvaged discs from the fire at the safe house, Ferris discovers and informs Hoffman that unidentifiable terrorists in the UK planned to carry out further attacks following the bus bombings in Sheffield, but were thwarted when they were discovered in Manchester and caused their own demise.
