BoJack Horseman (2014–2020), the creation of Raphael Bob-Waksberg, first premiered on Netflix on August 22, 2014. After its initial release, the show was renewed by Netflix for a sixth and final season, which aired from September 20, 2018 to January 31, 2020. The series consists of a total of 77 episodes – with the first five seasons consisting of 12 episodes each and the final season divided into two parts of eight episodes each. In addition to the regular seasons, a one-off Christmas special was released on December 19, 2014. While receiving mixed reviews upon release, critics were significantly more positive towards the second half of the first season and subsequent seasons received widespread acclaim for its animation, voice acting, humor, mature themes, character development, emotional weight and approach to its subject matter. GQ magazine even hailed it as one of the best shows of the 2010s while IndieWire ranked BoJack Horseman among the greatest animated TV series in history.
The series takes place in a different world where humans and anthropomorphic animals coexist. It is mainly based in Hollywoo (renamed after someone stole the ‘D’ from the sign). BoJack Horseman, the former star of the ’90s sitcom Horsin’ Around, has fallen from grace. The show revolved around a single horse taking care of three human children who were orphaned. Now secluded in his Hollywood Hills mansion, BoJack plans to make a grand return to fame by writing an uncensored autobiography with the help of ghostwriter Diane Nguyen. However, he also struggles with substance abuse and its negative effects on his behavior. As if that weren’t enough, BoJack must navigate the demands of his agent and ex-girlfriend Princess Carolyn, his mooching roommate Todd Chavez, and his old rival Mr. Peanutbutter.
