Bombshell (2019), a film by Jay Roach with screenplay by Charles Randolph, follows the story of Megyn Kelly and Gretchen Carlson in the aftermath of the 2016 Republican debate. Kelly faces backlash from Donald Trump after questioning him about his offensive comments toward women during the debate. Despite receiving death threats and unwanted paparazzi attention, she later reconciles with Trump under pressure from the network. On the other hand, Carlson is removed as co-anchor of Fox & Friends and placed on a less popular show due to rampant sexism both on and off air, including from Roger Ailes. After seeking legal advice from lawyers Nancy Smith and Neil Mullin, Carlson learns that while her contract prevents her from suing the network, she can take legal action against Ailes himself for his behavior.

On her first day on The O’Reilly Factor, Kayla Pospisil meets Jess Carr, another female staffer, and they engage in intimate activities. The next day, Pospisil is subjected to sexual harassment by Ailes. She tries to confide in Carr about it but Carr declares that she cannot intervene. Carlson is later dismissed from her job for advocating for the federal assault weapons ban on air. She then decides to take legal action against Ailes. When the news of this lawsuit goes public the following day, Ailes denies any wrongdoing while Kelly reveals to her team that she was also harassed by Ailes when she joined Fox. In the weeks that follow, despite many other women coming forward with their accusations against Ailes, Kelly conspicuously refuses to comment on Carlson’s allegations.
