Book of Love (2022)

Analeine Cal y Mayor directs a romantic comedy film, Book of Love (2022). Along with co-writer David Quantick, she brings to life the story of Henry Copper, a prim and proper English author with a traditional approach to romance. Despite his love-focused writing style, Henry’s only published book isn’t selling and he’s at a loss for what to do. Luckily, his publisher Jen delivers some unexpected news – his book is now selling in Mexico! To capitalize on this success, Jen sends Henry on a three city book signing tour in Mexico. With little time to prepare, Henry packs up and flies out the next day. Upon arrival, he meets Maria – the translator of his book – and sets off on a tour with her, Mexican publisher Pedro, and their family members. The first book signing is a hit; however, Henry can’t understand why everyone is talking about sex. Despite Maria’s attempts to downplay the content in her translations, Henry soon realizes that she didn’t just translate the book – she rewrote it as a steamy romance novel. This revelation explains its popularity among readers.
Despite his initial indifference, Henry had no choice but to carry on with the book tour. As time passed, he gradually accepted that Maria’s contribution had actually improved the book, while she had to come to terms with the fact that it was his name that was driving its success. Despite interference from Maria’s ex Antonio, a romance blossomed between them. The publisher gave Henry a deadline of 10 weeks to complete another book, which he could only do by collaborating with Maria. Working together, they eventually shared a romantic evening, until Antonio once again caused problems and Henry stormed out, returning to England. It wasn’t until later that Henry realized his true feelings for her and made the trip back to Mexico for a book signing event. This time, however, he made sure both their names were on the cover as co-authors.
