Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017)
Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) is an American neo-noir prison action thriller film directed and written by S. Craig Zahle. The story centers around Bradley Thomas, a former boxer who turns to drug smuggling to support himself after losing his job. However, a series of unfortunate events lands him in prison, where he must make the difficult decision of whether or not to kill a man in order to save his pregnant wife from a powerful drug lord seeking revenge. Along the way, Bradley is faced with the consequences of his previous actions and must navigate through various moral dilemmas. In this dark and unpredictable world, danger may be lurking around every corner.
After a year and a half, Bradley and his wife, now expecting, have moved to a bigger and pricier house. His boss, Gil, introduces Bradley to Eleazar, a new colleague, and assigns him a fresh task. This involves sailing out to sea with two of Eleazar’s associates to retrieve crystal meth. Despite his suspicions towards the larger man named Roman, Bradley accepts the offer when Gil promises him three months off for paternity leave. However, when they reach the pier, Bradley senses that they are heading into a police trap and decides to toss his bag into the water. He urges the others to do the same but they disregard his request and engage in a shootout with law enforcement officers, injuring three of them. After briefly considering fleeing the scene, Bradley ultimately decides to aid the police by shooting both of Eleazar’s men.
