Broadway Danny Rose (1984) is an American black-and-white comedy film written and directed by Woody Allen. The story centers on Danny Rose, a hardworking talent agent who represents a variety of unconventional and overlooked entertainers. During a lunch at New York’s Carnegie Deli, fellow comedians reminisce about Danny’s dedicated approach to his clients, including the struggling lounge singer Lou Canova. Despite his willingness to take on challenging acts, Danny always goes above and beyond to meet their personal and professional needs. However, as soon as any of his acts achieve success, they inevitably leave him for more established representation.
Lou, a family man, is involved with Tina, who used to date a gangster who still has feelings for her. She is asked by Lou to join him at a major performance he landed at the Waldorf Astoria, where prominent figure Milton Berle may offer even more opportunities. To keep their relationship secret, Danny pretends to be Tina’s partner on the singer’s request. However, the ex-boyfriend becomes envious and mistakenly believes Danny and Tina are truly together. He then hires someone to take out Danny, putting him in danger of losing both his client and his life. Eventually, Tina and Danny are found by the ex-boyfriend’s siblings and held captive in an abandoned warehouse.
