Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013–2021) is an American police procedural comedy TV series that aired on Fox and later on NBC for eight seasons and 153 episodes, from September 17, 2013 to September 16, 2021. Created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur, the show follows seven NYPD detectives as they adjust to their new commanding officer, Captain Raymond Holt. The captain is serious and stern, and takes over Brooklyn’s 99th precinct where Detective Jake Peralta works. Jake is a talented but carefree detective who’s used to doing things his own way. Other members of the precinct include Detective Amy Santiago, Jake’s competitive partner; tough and reserved coworker Detective Rosa Diaz; Jake’s best friend and fellow detective Charles Boyle, who has a crush on Rosa; Detective Sergeant Terry Jeffords who was recently assigned a desk job after becoming a father of twin girls; and Gina Linetti, the sarcastic administrator of the precinct.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was initially ordered for 13 episodes by Fox, but eventually expanded to 22 for its first season. Premiering on September 17, 2013, the show was cancelled by Fox after five seasons on May 10, 2018. However, the very next day, NBC picked it up for a sixth season which aired on January 10, 2019. The seventh season premiered in February of 2020 and the final season of 10 episodes premiered on August 12, 2021. Critics have praised the series as it went on to win numerous accolades. Its debut season received a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Andy Samberg won Best Actor – Television Series Musical or Comedy. Andre Braugher was nominated four times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at the Primetime Emmy Awards and has twice been honored with the Critics’ Choice Television Award in the same category. The show also earned recognition for tackling important issues while maintaining its comedic edge, particularly in its portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters which led it to winning the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2018.
