Bruiser (2000)
Bruiser (2000) is a French-Canadian horror-thriller film written and directed by George A. Romero. The creative director of a successful magazine firm, Henry Creedlow, leads an unhappy life due to his high-strung and contemptuous wife Janine. He often fantasizes about suicide as a result. During a commute to work with his best friend Jimmy Larson, Henry’s unsettled mind leads him to imagine killing a woman who pushes him while trying to board the train. At the office, where he works for a local magazine called Bruiser, everyone is gathered for a conference meeting to choose the model for their latest issue. However, Henry’s sleazy boss Milo Styles mocks his suggestion in front of his co-workers.
On Saturday, Milo and his wife Rosie throw a party for the workers. Among them is Henry, who receives a custom-made plaster mask from Rosie, who enjoys designing masks in her free time. Wandering through the ‘garden of lost souls’ in the backyard, Henry admires Rosie’s latest addition to her collection. However, when she asks him to paint a design on the blank face, Henry draws a blank himself. As he looks across the pool, he notices Milo and Janine sharing an intimate moment. The sight troubles him deeply and he decides to confront Janine during their drive home later that evening. Though Janine appears unfazed by his accusations, she coldly tells him that he lacks strength and assertiveness.
