Bumblebee (2018)

The science fiction action film, Bumblebee (2018), is based on the popular character from Hasbro and Takara Tomy’s Transformers toy line. On Cybertron, the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are facing defeat in their battle against the Decepticons and plan to leave the planet. As they attempt to evacuate, the Decepticons, led by Starscream, Soundwave, and Shockwave, attack them. In a last-ditch effort to set up a new base of operations, Optimus sends scout B-127 to Earth in an escape pod while he stays behind to fight off the Decepticons. B-127 crash-lands in California in 1987 and disrupts a training exercise by Sector 7 – a top-secret government agency that monitors extraterrestrial activity on Earth. Thinking B-127 is a threat, Colonel Jack Burns orders his men to attack. To evade them, B-127 transforms into a Willys MB jeep and heads to an old mine where he unexpectedly encounters Blitzwing – one of the Decepticons.

After B-127 refuses to reveal Optimus’s whereabouts, Blitzwing viciously removes his voice box and damages his memory core. This prompts B-127 to retaliate and destroy the Decepticon using a missile from their own arsenal. Wounded from the encounter, B-127 transforms into a nearby 1967 yellow Volkswagen Beetle before collapsing. Meanwhile, Charlie Watson is struggling with the recent death of her father and harboring resentment towards her mother’s new partner, Ronald. She stumbles upon the Beetle at her Uncle Hank’s scrapyard and receives it as an 18th birthday gift. While attempting to start the car, Charlie unknowingly activates a signal that attracts the attention of Shatter and Dropkick – two Decepticons who were interrogating and killing Cliffjumper on one of Saturn’s moons.
