Buried Alive (1990)
In the American horror thriller film, Buried Alive (1990), directed by Frank Darabont, successful contractor Clint Goodman lives with his wife Joanna. Despite their seemingly perfect life, Joanna has been having an affair with local doctor Cortland van Owen. Together, they plot to murder Clint and take over his company and house. Joanna’s motive is to move back to Beverly Hills and purchase a clinic. To carry out their plan, Cortland provides Joanna with poison obtained from a tropical fish. During a dinner with Clint, Joanna has a change of heart but still adds some of the poison into his wine. This results in Clint having a heart attack and appearing to die. While his body is at the morgue, signs of life are shown but Joanna insists on a quick funeral without embalming or proper care for the deceased.
However, little does she know that Clint had only been mildly affected by the diluted poison and was actually alive when he was buried. He eventually breaks out of his coffin and escapes from his grave. Upon returning home, he discovers the shocking truth about his unfaithful wife and her accomplice Cortland. He hides in the basement to recover and overhears that Joanna was pregnant with his child, which she and Cortland had secretly aborted. The next morning, Clint’s friend Sheriff Sam Eberly discovers that his grave has been disturbed and the body is missing. Meanwhile, Joanna finds mud covering the bathroom floor of the home. Desperate, she attempts to call Cortland but only reaches his answering machine. Her panic grows when she encounters Clint’s dog, Duke.
