Burrow (2020) is an American 2D animated short film written and directed by Madeline Sharafian, produced by Michael Capbarat at Pixar Animation Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. A little brown rabbit is making a burrow in the English countryside. She has sketched out her dream home on a piece of paper. As she starts digging, her new neighbors, a mole and a field mouse, eagerly offer their assistance, showcasing their own elaborate blueprints and floor plans for their families’ burrows. Feeling self-conscious about her simple drawing, the rabbit hides it from them, makes up an excuse to leave, and continues to dig deeper to distance herself from them, leaving them puzzled.
As she continues her excavation, she unintentionally interrupts various creatures living in the underground world. Among them are a group of frogs who have a library, hedgehog bakers who offer her muffins, bathing newts who provide towels, and festive beetles and ants who mistake her for entertainment. Despite their nonchalant attitude towards her presence, she can’t help but feel embarrassed by these encounters. One particularly grumpy animal startles her from a dark cave, prompting her to flee down to the bedrock. Hoping for some privacy to create a proper burrow, she attempts to expand the hole only to hit the water table. The sudden gush of water threatens to flood not only her own burrow but also those of her neighboring underground inhabitants.
