Capone (1975)
Capone (1975), a film directed by Steve Carver and written by Howard Browne, follows the story of Chicago mob boss Al Capone during Prohibition. From his rise to power to his eventual conviction and imprisonment, the film depicts Capone’s control over the city. This includes an incident in Brooklyn on May 6, 1918 where he tipped off police about a fur clothing heist in order to ambush them. However, things take a turn when Capone ends up being thrown through a glass window during the ensuing fight, leaving him with a scarred left cheek. Despite this, he is released without charge thanks to the intervention of a senior police lieutenant. Afterwards, Capone is brought to meet Johnny Torrio and Frankie Yale by some racketeers.
It is revealed that the fur thieves were employed by Johnny and Yale. Impressed by Capone’s cunning and brutality, they extend an invitation for him to join the Five Points Gang. A year later, on September 23, 1919, Johnny discusses Prohibition with his boss ‘Big’ Jim Colosimo. This new law bans the sale of alcohol. Eager to enter the lucrative bootlegging business, Johnny plans to invest millions. However, Colosimo deems such a trade beneath him and declines the offer. In response, Johnny contacts Frankie and instructs him to bring Capone to Chicago as an enforcer for Colosimo. There, Johnny introduces Capone to his colleagues, including dancer and barmaid Iris Crawford.
