Cassandra's Dream (2007)
Cassandra’s Dream (2007) is a crime thriller drama film written and directed by Woody Allen. Filmed in England, it is a collaboration between the United States, France, and the United Kingdom. Brothers Terry and Ian grew up in South London under the care of their parents – their father Brian, who owns a restaurant, and their mother Dorothy, who instilled in them admiration for their uncle Howard. Howard is a renowned plastic surgeon and entrepreneur with practices in Switzerland, the US, and China. The brothers purchase a sailboat named after Terry’s lucky greyhound for a bargain, despite its excellent condition. On their way home from sailing one day, Ian meets actress Angela Stark through unexpected circumstances. He becomes smitten with her and helps her fix her broken car while driving home in a borrowed vehicle.
As a token of gratitude for his kindness, Angela gifts him tickets to her play. This marks the beginning of their relationship, even though she is already involved with someone else. Terry’s gambling addiction has caused him to accumulate significant debt. In order to fund a fresh start with Angela and fulfill his dream of investing in hotels in California, Ian turns to seeking assistance from Howard. Despite being abroad on business in China, Howard agrees to help them out of their financial struggles. However, he makes it clear that he expects something in return – they must eliminate a man named Martin Burns. Burns poses a threat to Howard’s future due to his plans to testify against him for unspecified crimes.
