As an American psychological horror television series, Castle Rock (2018–2019) draws inspiration from the stories created by Stephen King and his fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine. Set in the Stephen King’s multiverse, this series combines elements from the author’s most beloved works, weaving an epic tale of light and darkness on a small patch of Maine woodland. Throughout King’s literary career, the fictional town of Castle Rock has played a significant role, appearing in works such as Cujo, The Dark Half, Needful Things, and The Body. It is also featured in multiple short stories including Rita Hayworth and The Shawshank Redemption. With its unique blend of suspense and thriller elements, Castle Rock takes readers on a journey through the interconnected themes and worlds of King’s vast canon while paying homage to some of his most iconic stories.

In 1991 Castle Rock, Maine, Sheriff Alan Pangborn discovers that a missing child, Henry Deaver, is standing on the frozen lake in town. Twenty-seven years pass and on his last day as warden of Shawshank State Penitentiary, Dale Lacy takes his own life. Theresa Porter, Lacy’s successor, makes plans to reopen a previously abandoned cell block to accommodate the growing inmate population. During a bed count, guard Dennis Zalewski comes across an unidentified prisoner locked in an underground cage. When The Kid is finally freed, he whispers Henry’s full name before being taken away by Porter. Despite Zalewski’s attempts to involve him in the situation, Porter refuses to let Henry, now a death-row lawyer, get involved. However, Zalewski anonymously reaches out to Henry for help. Upon returning to Castle Rock and reconnecting with Pangborn and his mother Ruth who suffers from dementia, Henry tries to gather more information about The Kid. Unfortunately, Porter remains evasive and won’t provide any answers. Meanwhile, Zalewski sees on the prison surveillance footage that The Kid has escaped and brutally murdered several guards. In one of the flashbacks during these events, it is
