Central Intelligence (2016)
Central Intelligence (2016) is an American buddy action comedy film directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber and written by Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen. In 1996, Calvin ‘The Golden Jet’ Joyner, a star athlete, was being honored at his high school. During his speech, a group of bullies led by Trevor Olson decided to play a cruel prank on the morbidly obese Robbie Weirdicht, who was happily dancing in the locker room shower. They threw him naked into the gymnasium in front of the entire school. While everyone else laughed, Joyner and his girlfriend Maggie Johnson were the only ones who felt sympathy for Weirdicht. In an act of compassion, Joyner quickly covered him with his varsity jacket before Weirdicht fled in embarrassment.
Joyner has been married to Maggie for 20 years and currently works as a forensic accountant. However, he is unhappy with his job and feels dissatisfied. In an attempt to save their struggling marriage, Maggie suggests they seek therapy. While at work, Joyner unexpectedly receives a friend request from someone named ‘Bob Stone’ on Facebook. Curious, he agrees to meet Stone at a bar. To his surprise, Bob Stone turns out to be Weirdicht – the same person he knew 20 years ago but now transformed into a confident and physically fit individual with impressive combat skills. Bob asks Joyner to review some online transactions involving bidders from radical countries and the final bids are set to end the following day in a multimillion-dollar auction. Despite Joyner’s inquiries, Bob avoids answering any questions and ends up spending the night on his couch.
