Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) is a whimsical musical movie, directed by Tim Burton and written by John August. It is based on Roald Dahl’s beloved novel of the same name from 1964. The story follows Charlie Bucket, a kind and affectionate young boy living in poverty with his family near the famous Wonka Factory. Willy Wonka, the eccentric owner of the company, has closed his factory to outsiders for years due to issues with industrial espionage. As a result, all of his employees, including Charlie’s Grandpa Joe, lost their jobs. On top of that, Charlie’s father also recently lost his job at a toothpaste factory but hasn’t shared this with his son yet. One day, Wonka announces an exciting contest where he has hidden Golden Tickets in five randomly selected Wonka Bars around the world. The lucky winners will get an exclusive tour of the factory and a lifetime supply of chocolate. And as an extra surprise, one winner will receive a special prize at the end of the tour.
Following the sudden surge in Wonka’s sales, the first four tickets were quickly claimed by Augustus Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, and Mike Teavee. Despite his attempts to secure a ticket of his own, Charlie’s two previous Wonka Bars yielded no results. Determined to keep trying, Charlie purchases a third bar after hearing that the final ticket was found in Russia. However, upon discovering that it was a fake, Charlie is thrilled to find the real ticket hidden inside. Tempting offers for the ticket are thrown at him, but he remembers the cashier’s warning and rushes back home. Initially tempted to trade the ticket for money to improve his family’s situation, Charlie receives wise words from Grandpa George and decides to keep it. He then brings along Grandpa Joe on the exciting tour of Willy Wonka’s factory.
