Charlotte's Web (2006)
The fantasy comedy-drama film Charlotte’s Web (2006) is an adaptation of E. B. White’s novel of the same name. In the springtime on a farm in Somerset County, Maine, Fern Arable discovers her father John poised to kill a runt from a litter of newborn pigs. She pleads with him to spare the piglet’s life, naming him Wilbur and caring for him tenderly. The following day, Fern sneaks Wilbur into her school desk and when her teacher overhears his squeals, she demands to know what is inside. Fern lies and claims there is nothing in her desk, causing the teacher to angrily send them both to the principal’s office. As Wilbur grows up, Fern reluctantly takes him to her uncle Homer Zuckerman’s barnyard. Lacking understanding for her daughter’s actions, Mrs. Arable encourages Fern one evening to stay home and complete her homework instead of visiting Wilbur before bed.
During this time, Wilbur yearns for companionship as he feels abandoned and rejected by the other barn animals. Despite his efforts to connect with them, a variety of characters – including a rebellious rat named Templeton, a serious sheep named Samuel, a kind goose couple named Gussy and Golly, two laid-back cow sisters named Bitsy and Betsy, and a humorous horse named Ike – refuse his friendship. However, just when all seems lost, Wilbur is finally accepted by Charlotte A. Cavatica, a beautiful barn spider who lives in the space above his sty in the Zuckermans’ barn. As Christmas approaches and the other animals reveal their plans to have Wilbur for dinner, Charlotte vows to save him by using her unique talents.
