Charmed (1998–2006), a popular American fantasy drama TV series, was created by Constance M. Burge and produced by Aaron Spelling’s company, with Brad Kern as showrunner. The show originally aired on The WB from October 7, 1998 to May 21, 2006 and follows three powerful good witches known as The Charmed Ones. Using their ‘Power of Three’, they protect innocent lives from evil beings like demons and warlocks. Each sister has unique magical abilities that evolve as they navigate modern-day life in San Francisco. Keeping their supernatural identities secret from their ordinary lives presents challenges, often leading to investigations by law enforcement agencies which have significant impacts on their relationships.

Charmed quickly gained a devoted fan base and popularity on The WB, with its premiere episode Something Wicca This Way Comes drawing in 7.7 million viewers and setting a new record for the network’s most-watched debut. Despite competing against established shows on the ‘big four’ networks, Charmed proved to be a success for The WB, which was still relatively new and smaller at the time. Throughout its run of eight seasons, the show underwent several changes in its airing schedule. Initially airing on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 pm for three seasons, Charmed consistently ranked as the second-highest rated series on The WB, just behind 7th Heaven. In its fifth season, it moved to Sundays at 8:00 pm, becoming not only the highest-rated Sunday night program in The WB’s history but also the second-longest drama ever aired by the network after 7th Heaven. Eventually, Charmed set a new record as the longest-running hour-long TV series featuring an all-female lead cast when it reached 178 episodes in 2006.
