Chicken Run (2000)
Chicken Run (2000) is an animated comedy film, a joint production of Pathé, Aardman Animations, and DreamWorks Animation. Set in the Yorkshire countryside, the film follows a flock of chickens living on an egg farm that resembles a prisoner-of-war camp. The farm is under the control of Mrs Tweedy and her husband, Mr Tweedy, who have no qualms about killing and eating any chicken that can no longer lay eggs. Led by the rebellious Ginger, the chickens continuously devise new escape plans but are always caught. Despite Mr Tweedy’s suspicions that they are organizing resistance, his wife dismisses his theories while becoming increasingly frustrated with their meager profits. One night, Ginger witnesses Rocky Rhodes, an American rooster with a sprained wing, flying over the coop’s fences and landing with a crash. The chickens quickly band together to hide him from the Tweedys in hopes of claiming the handsome reward promised by Rocky’s owner for his return.
After witnessing Rocky’s impressive flying skills, Ginger implores him to train her and the other chickens so they can break free from their confined life. He agrees and begins giving them lessons. One day, a delivery arrives at the farm containing all the necessary parts for Mrs Tweedy’s latest venture: a chicken pie making factory. As the Tweedys increase the chickens’ food rations while ignoring their decline in egg production, Ginger realizes that their true intention is to fatten them up for slaughter. Frustrated with Rocky after an argument, he lifts morale by throwing a dance party where it is revealed that his previously injured wing has healed. Eager to see him fly again, Ginger asks Rocky to demonstrate his abilities the next day. However, Mr Tweedy finishes assembling the chicken pie machine and puts Ginger inside for a trial run. Luckily, Rocky swoops in to save her and sabotages the machine, providing them with valuable time to alert the other chickens and devise an escape plan from the farm.
