Cliffhanger (1993), an American action thriller film, directed and co-produced by Renny Harlin and co-written by and starring Sylvester Stallone. Rangers Gabriel ‘Gabe’ Walker and his girlfriend Jessie Deighan are sent on a mission to rescue their friend Hal Tucker and his girlfriend, Sarah. Due to an injury, Hal is unable to continue the climb in the Colorado Rockies, leaving them stranded on a peak. As they attempt to save Sarah, her harness breaks, forcing Gabe to try to catch her. Despite his best efforts, Sarah tragically falls to her death. Overwhelmed with guilt, Gabe takes an extended leave from work. However, after eight months he returns to gather his belongings and convince Jessie to leave with him. Just then, they receive a distress call from a group of climbers in trouble. While Hal heads out to help them, Jessie convinces Gabe to join in the rescue effort.
Hal harbors resentment towards Gabe for Sarah’s untimely death and even threatens to push him off a ledge. However, when they stumble upon the group of climbers, they soon realize that the distress call was fabricated. To make matters worse, they are held captive by a merciless gang of international criminals led by Eric Qualen, a deranged former Military Intelligence operative. Among their ranks are the vicious Kynette, cruel Delmar, skilled pilot Kristel, Ryan, and Heldon. The well-planned heist involved stealing three suitcases containing over $100 million in uncirculated bills from a mid-air transfer between a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and a Lockheed Jetstar. Unfortunately for them, their escape doesn’t go as planned when an FBI agent presumed dead manages to damage the plane’s hydraulics, causing it to crash into the mountain.
