Coherence (2013) is an American surreal science fiction psychological thriller film directed by James Ward Byrkit in his directorial debut. On the night of Miller’s Comet’s passing, eight friends gather for a dinner party at the home of couple Mike and Lee. A sense of unease lingers as Emily hesitates to accompany her boyfriend, Kevin, on an extended business trip abroad. To make matters worse, Amir brings along Kevin’s ex-girlfriend Laurie who proceeds to flirt inappropriately with him. As if things couldn’t get any stranger, a sudden power outage shakes up the evening. With only candles and glow sticks for light, each friend grabs a blue one and heads outside where they stumble upon a dark neighborhood except for one house emitting light. Upon returning inside, they notice a broken glass that no one recalls breaking.
After discussing the strange occurrences further, Amir and Hugh decide to seek help at the nearby lit house since Hugh’s physicist brother had warned him about possible strangeness during the comet’s passing. With no cell phone signal available, it seems like their only option at this point. Hugh and Amir return, one with a cut on his forehead and the other carrying a box containing a ping-pong paddle and photographs with numbers written on them. From a nearby window, Hugh catches sight of an eight-person table set in what appears to be an alternate version of their own house. After realizing this, Hugh scribbles a note to leave at the other house, only to come across an identical note pinned to their own door. Emily, Kevin, Mike, and Laurie join them as they head towards the mysterious house. Along the way, they come across another group of four with red glow sticks instead of blue ones.
