Collateral Beauty (2016)
Collateral Beauty (2016) is an American fantasy drama film directed by David Frankel and written by Allan Loeb. The story follows Howard Inlet, a successful advertising executive who tragically loses his young daughter. This devastating event takes a toll on Howard’s mental state as he sinks into a deep depression. His behavior becomes concerning to his estranged friends and business partners, Whit Yardsham, Claire Wilson, and Simon Scott, who worry about both Howard’s well-being and the future of their company. His actions have caused them to lose important clients and left them on the brink of bankruptcy. In an attempt to take control of the situation, the trio hires private investigator Sally Price to gather evidence that would allow them to take over the company due to Howard’s unfit condition.
Sally discovers three letters from Howard addressed to the abstract concepts of Love, Time, and Death. She shares her finding with the group, who then devises a plan involving struggling actors Amy, Raffi, and Brigitte. Their goal is to portray the abstracts in order to confront Howard about his letters. Sally will record these interactions and edit out the actors, making Howard seem unstable. This will allow them to sell the company. As part of their preparations for their roles, Brigitte, Raffi, and Amy spend time with Simon, Claire, and Whit. However, each of them is dealing with personal issues – Simon has cancer; Whit is trying to mend his relationship with his daughter after cheating on her mother; and Claire is searching for sperm donors as she neglected her love life for years.
