Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009)
Based on the first two novels in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series, Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009) is an American romantic comedy film. The protagonist, Rebecca ‘Becky’ Bloomwood, is a shopaholic residing in New York City with her best friend Suze. Despite working as a journalist for a gardening magazine, Becky longs to be a part of the fashion magazine Alette. On her way to an interview with Alette, she attempts to buy a green scarf but faces rejection when her credit card is declined. To obtain cash for the purchase, she offers to buy all the hot dogs from a stand and receive change in return for her check, citing it as a gift for her sick aunt. Although the vendor declines this offer, another customer kindly gives Becky the $20 she needs for the scarf. Upon reaching her interview, Becky discovers that the position has been filled internally.
However, the receptionist informs her about an open position at Successful Saving magazine and explains that this job could potentially lead to working at Alette in the future. Rebecca meets with Luke Brandon, the editor of Successful Saving and the person who had previously gifted her $20. She cleverly places her scarf outside his office, but Luke’s assistant interrupts and returns it to her. Knowing she has been caught, Rebecca exits. Later that night, she and Suze indulge in alcohol and write letters to Alette and Successful Saving, but in her intoxicated state, she mistakenly sends each to the wrong magazine. Surprisingly, Luke is impressed by the letter intended for Alette and offers Rebecca a job. However, instead of completing an assignment for a new column, Rebecca opts to go on a clothing sale spree.
