Courageous (2011) is an independent American Christian drama directed by Alex Kendrick and co-written by his brother, Stephen Kendrick. Nathan Hayes, a new deputy in Albany, Georgia, rushes to reclaim his stolen truck from a gas station. Despite being injured, he bravely retrieves the vehicle and finds relief when he sees his baby boy unharmed in the back. Upon arrival of the police, fellow deputies Adam Mitchell and Shane Fuller learn about Hayes’ recent move to their town. As they bond over work, we also catch glimpses of their personal lives: Mitchell’s love for his nine-year-old daughter Emily and distant relationship with his fifteen-year-old son Dylan due to a lack of interest in 5k runs. Hayes, never knowing his biological father, instead considered a neighbor as his own.

He would put himself in danger to protect his three children. However, his daughter Jade, now a teenager, harbors resentment towards him due to his strict rules about dating and her love interest Derrick. Fuller is divorced, like his parents before him, and has joint custody of his son. On the other hand, David Thomson is young and single. Meanwhile, Javier Martinez is an immigrant facing financial struggles after losing his job when a construction company exceeded its budget. While searching for new employment opportunities, he finds himself walking down an alley and asking God for guidance on what to do next. Mitchell, under the impression that he is another Javier recommended to him by a friend, enlists his help with backyard projects and construction.
