Creepshow 2 (1987) is a follow-up to the American comedy horror anthology film, Creepshow, both directed by Michael Gornick. Gornick previously served as the cinematographer for the first film, while the screenplay was once again crafted by George A. Romero, who directed the original. In the small town of Dexter, Maine, a delivery truck makes a stop at a newsstand. Excitedly, young Billy follows on his bike as the truck’s back shutter opens to reveal the Creep. The mysterious figure drops off copies of the latest issue of Creepshow (featuring the same cover as seen in the final scene of the previous film) before disappearing into thin air. Without hesitation, Billy picks up an issue and begins to dive into its pages.
Old Chief Wood’nhead. Ray and Martha Spruce, an elderly couple who own a small town’s general store, have a unique decoration: a cigar store Indian named ‘Old Chief Wood’nhead’. Benjamin Whitemoon, the elder of a local Native American tribe, brings them a bag of turquoise jewelry – his tribe’s sacred treasures – as collateral for their debt. Later that night, the Spruces are robbed by Sam Whitemoon (Benjamin’s estranged nephew), Andy Cavanaugh, and Vince ‘Fat Stuff’ Gribbens. In the struggle that ensues, Martha is tragically shot and killed by Sam, who also shoots and kills Ray before escaping with the jewels.
The Raft. In mid-October, four college students, Deke, Laverne, Randy, and Rachel, head to Cascade Beach, a remote lake away from civilization, for some excitement. While swimming towards a wooden raft in the middle of the lake, Randy spots a duck being dragged under the water by an unseen force. Once they all reach the raft, they come face to face with what had made Randy so anxious: a large black mass resembling an oil slick floating on the surface. As Rachel leans over to touch it, the creature snatches her and pulls her into the lake. Frantically trying to figure out their next move, the three students realize that there is no caretaker present since it’s currently the off-season. As time ticks by, Deke decides to swim back to shore and fetch help.
The Hitch-hiker. Annie Lansing, a Maine businesswoman who had been unfaithful to her husband, woke up and left bed after spending the night with her gigolo lover. Realizing she only had 15 minutes before her husband George would arrive home, she quickly got into her car and raced towards her house several miles away. However, as she was driving, an ember from her cigarette caused her to lose control on a slippery corner. In the process, she accidentally hit a hitchhiker who was headed for Dover. Since no one seemed to have witnessed the incident, Annie drove off without looking back. Unbeknownst to her, however, the area soon became crowded with a truck driver, two passersby, and George himself, who promptly reported the hit-and-run to the authorities.
