Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles (2001) is an action comedy film directed by Simon Wincer and starring Paul Hogan. Michael ‘Crocodile’ Dundee, currently residing in the Australian outback with his partner Sue Charlton and their young son Mikey, has had to find new ways of making a living since crocodile hunting has become outlawed. However, he faces competition from fellow survivalist Jacko. When an opportunity arises for Sue to take on a new job as the Los Angeles bureau chief for her father’s newspaper, the family packs up and heads to California. In America, both Mick and Mikey have some cultural misunderstandings with the locals. Mick even takes on the role of detective when investigating the suspicious death of Sue’s predecessor at the paper, while Mikey impresses his peers at school with his impressive survival skills from growing up in the outback.
Due to the amount of time consumed by the case, Mick and Sue decide to enlist Jacko’s help with watching their son. This leads to a connection forming between Jacko and Mikey’s teacher. It is discovered that the deceased reporter had been looking into a film studio planning to produce a follow-up to the unsuccessful movie Lethal Agent. Mick becomes doubtful when he sees artwork from Southern Europe being brought onto the set. While he initially suspects drug trafficking, it is later revealed that the paintings are actually stolen pieces from a museum in former Yugoslavia, previously thought lost during the country’s civil wars.
