Cujo (1983) is an American horror film directed by Lewis Teague and based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. The story follows the Trenton family – Vic, Donna, and their young son Tad – as they encounter Cujo, a friendly St. Bernard, while getting their car repaired at the home of mechanic Joe Camber. Despite initial concerns about Cujo being aggressive, the family gets along well with him. Meanwhile, tensions rise in Vic and Donna’s marriage when Vic learns of Donna’s past affair with her high school ex-boyfriend, Steve Kemp. As Cujo chases a rabbit and gets bitten by a rabid bat, his infection gradually worsens. However, no one notices until it’s too late. With Joe’s wife Charity and son Brett away visiting family, Cujo’s rage boils over and he attacks their neighbor Gary before eventually mauling Joe to death.
While Vic is away on a business trip, Donna and Tad head back to the Cambers’ home for additional car repairs. However, they are met with a dangerous situation when Cujo attempts to attack them. With no other option, they seek refuge inside their Ford Pinto. Donna attempts to drive them home, but unfortunately the alternator gives out and they become trapped in the hot car. As conditions become unbearable, Donna realizes she must act quickly before heatstroke or dehydration takes their lives. Despite multiple attempts to escape, Cujo continues to attack the car, even breaking a window and biting Donna. Upon Vic’s return, he discovers that his wife and son are missing and his house has been vandalized by Kemp. The authorities are alerted and local sheriff George Bannerman heads to the Cambers’ house, but tragically ends up as another victim of Cujo’s viciousness.
