Mallory, a young bride-to-be, is on her way to Denver for her wedding rehearsal. While traveling, she video chats with her sister Ella, who reveals that she hasn’t bought her plane tickets yet. Concerned about Mallory’s happiness, Ella wants to make sure that she truly loves her partner. In response, Mallory puts on a fake voice and ends the call. However, shortly after, her car breaks down and she has no service to call AAA. As she attempts to change clothes at the back of the car, she meets Christian and explains her predicament. He kindly helps get her car started and she continues on her journey. Feeling guilty, Mallory eventually offers Christian a ride as a gesture of gratitude.
While traveling, he begins to exhibit strange behavior, speaking of how their encounter was destined and inevitable. Frustrated, she demands he leave the vehicle. However, he brandishes a knife and orders her to continue driving. In a desperate attempt to escape, she speeds towards a guardrail at a sharp curve. The impact is forceful as they crash, flipping the car over. When Mallory regains consciousness, she realizes her seat belt is unfastened but she is trapped by her injured leg. Christian awakens slowly and nonchalantly tells her to figure out how to free herself before abandoning her. Mallory finds a hoodie and finishes the last drops of water from her bottle as she waits. The next day, Christian returns and casually eats and drinks in front of her while discussing the irony of fate.
