Daddy’s Home (2015) is an American comedy directed by Sean Anders and written by Anders, Brian Burns, and John Morris. Brad Whitaker, a mild-mannered radio executive, strives to be a good stepfather to his wife Sara’s children, Megan and Dylan. Despite a previous accident affecting his fertility, Brad has been growing closer to the kids recently. Dylan has confided in him about bullies at school and Megan has even asked him to take her to the father/daughter dance. However, their peaceful routine is disrupted when Dusty Mayron, Sara’s ex-husband and the biological father of the children, calls announcing he will be visiting the next day. Despite Sara’s hesitation, Brad convinces her that it is important for the kids to see their father and stepfather establish a respectful relationship.
Dusty’s tough and muscular appearance, coupled with his charm towards Megan and Dylan, immediately intimidates Brad upon his arrival. Despite Sara’s warning about Dusty’s true nature, Brad is convinced by him to let him stay. However, it doesn’t take long for Brad to realize that Dusty intends to push him out of his children’s lives and reconcile with Sara. To make matters worse, Dusty repeatedly makes Brad look bad – he surprises the kids with a dog and completes the treehouse that Brad had been building with Dylan. In an unexpected turn of events, Dusty manipulates the situation to portray Brad as racist after causing chaos with his motorcycle. Adding fuel to the fire, Dusty slyly suggests going to a fertility doctor in an attempt to drive a wedge between Brad and Sara – hoping that their inability to conceive will lead her back into his arms.
