Daddy's Home 2 (2017)

The American comedy film Daddy’s Home 2 (2017) was directed by Sean Anders and co-written by Anders and John Morris. Following their newfound friendship in the first Daddy’s Home movie, Brad Whittaker and Dusty Mayron now have a co-dad arrangement for their two children, Megan and Dylan, who alternate between each father’s house. Dusty has also remarried to Karen, a writer, and is now stepfather to Karen’s daughter, Adrianna. During Megan’s school play, attended by Brad, Sara, Dusty, and Karen, she publicly expresses her dislike of constantly bouncing between two homes. After the play ends, Brad and Dusty decide to eliminate separate Christmas celebrations and instead have one ‘together Christmas’. However, just as they break the news to the kids, the phone rings – it’s Grandpa Kurt on the line, Dusty’s womanizing ex-astronaut father.

Kurt informs Dusty of his plans to come for Christmas, arriving at the airport in the morning. He also mentions that Brad’s parents will be joining for the holiday. The following day at the airport, Dusty shares with Brad that his father may not understand their co-dad arrangement and could potentially mock them. Upon Kurt’s arrival, he mistakes Brad for a chauffeur. After clarifying Brad’s role as the stepfather to his kids, Kurt expresses discontent. Shortly after, Brad’s father Don arrives, with an overly affectionate greeting towards his son through kisses on the lips, highlighting their unique father-son dynamic. This only adds to Kurt’s unease. Later at home, Megan and Dylan warmly welcome Don as they are used to his presence in their lives, while Kurt hasn’t seen them since they were toddlers.
