Dawn of the Dead (2004), an action horror film, marked Zack Snyder’s first foray into feature directing. The screenplay was written by James Gunn, as it was a remake of George A. Romero’s 1978 film with the same title. After completing her shift as a nurse, Ana returns home to her suburban neighborhood and her husband, Luis. Despite having planned a date night together, they are unaware of an emergency news broadcast. The next morning, their neighbor Vivian suddenly appears in their bedroom and kills Luis. Wh is immediately turned into a zombie and attacks Ana. She manages to escape in her car but ends up crashing and passing out. When she wakes up, she teams up with police sergeant Kenneth Hall, electronics salesman Michael, petty criminal Andre and his pregnant wife, Luda.
Together they seek refuge in a nearby mall, where they encounter a zombified security guard who scratches Luda. The three guards, C.J., Bart, and Terry, demand that the group surrender their weapons in exchange for shelter. The trio then divides into smaller groups to secure the mall. While on the roof, they spot another survivor named Andy, who is stranded in his gun store on the other side of the parking lot filled with zombies. Trying to signal for help, they notice a military helicopter passing by but are unable to grab the pilot’s attention. The following day, a delivery truck arrives at the lot carrying additional survivors who are being chased by zombies. Even though C.J. and Bart want to turn them away and take away their weapons, their decision is overturned and they must disarm themselves instead.
