Day of the Dead (1985)

Day of the Dead (1985), an American post-apocalyptic zombie horror film, follows a group of survivors years after the events depicted in Dawn of the Dead. The world has been overrun by zombies, with very few societal structures remaining. In a secure underground missile bunker located in the Everglades, a team of scientists and soldiers work together. While the scientists search for a cure to the zombie pandemic, the soldiers protect them. This team includes Dr. Sarah Bowman, her lover Private Miguel Salazar, radio operator Bill McDermott, and helicopter pilot John. Together, they leave their underground base and travel to Fort Myers in hopes of finding other survivors. Upon their arrival back at the base, the group encounters a vast army of the undead.

Tragically, they are informed that Major Cooper, the officer-in-charge of the military detachment, has perished. Sarah grows worried about Miguel’s deteriorating mental state, but he reacts with hostility towards her attempts to assist him. The lead scientist in charge, known as ‘Frankenstein’ due to his gruesome dissections of zombies, is convinced that the virus can be controlled through training and conditioning. To test his theory, he keeps a group of captured undead in an underground enclosure within the compound. However, Sarah vehemently disagrees with Logan’s methods and instead wants to focus on finding a cure for the disease. In her investigation, she uncovers Logan’s disturbing experiments on the corpses of dead soldiers, including Major Cooper.
