Legends of Tomorrow (2016–2022) is an American superhero TV series about time travel, created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, and Phil Klemmer. In the first season, former Time Master Rip Hunter breaks away when the immortal tyrant Vandal Savage takes over Earth and murders his family in their future. The organization he once vowed to protect turns against him. With a desire to seek justice for his loved ones and save humanity, Rip assembles a team of heroes and villains including Ray Palmer (also known as the Atom), Sara Lance (aka White Canary), Martin Stein and Jefferson Jackson (collectively known as Firestorm), Kendra Saunders (Hawkgirl), Carter Hall (Hawkman), Leonard Snart (Captain Cold), and Mick Rory (Heat Wave). Together on a stolen time ship called the Waverider, they travel through different periods to prevent Savage’s ascent to power.

In the second season, Snart makes a sacrifice while taking down the Time Masters. As a result, Rip disappears and Sara steps up to lead the team in their mission to protect the timeline from disruptions. They are later joined by Nate Heywood, also known as Citizen Steel, who gains the power to transform into steel at will. Alongside him is Amaya Jiwe, a member of the Justice Society of America, who joins the Legends in their pursuit of Eobard Thawne. Thawne, an enemy of Barry Allen with superhuman speed, is after an ancient artifact known as the Spear of Destiny which has the ability to alter reality. To achieve his goal, Thawne brings together Damien Darhk and Malcolm Merlyn as well as a time-displaced Snart from different eras to form the Legion of Doom. However, with Sara’s victory over Thawne and retrieval of the Spear, she successfully sends all members back to their proper timelines.

During season three, Rip creates the Time Bureau to replace the Time Masters and dismisses the Legends for causing disruptions in time. When one of Bureau’s agents, Ava Sharpe, is abducted, Rip has no choice but to bring the Legends out of their retirement. Meanwhile, an evil being named Mallus forms a group with Darhk’s daughter Nora as its leader, in pursuit of six powerful totems from Zambesi. Two of these totems are held by Amaya and near-future hacker Zari Tomaz. With the help of speedster Wally West, the Legends retrieve all of the totems and use them to ultimately defeat Mallus.

During season four, Rip’s sacrifice in the Legends’ battle against Mallus led to the emergence of other escaped demons. Occult detective John Constantine informs the team that they must now deal with these ‘magical fugitives’. To aid them in their mission, John is joined by shapeshifter Charlie and Mona Wu – who is currently hosting a Kaupe. Meanwhile, romantic relationships bloom between Ava and Sara, as well as Ray and Nora – who takes on the role of a fairy godmother. However, their peaceful days are short-lived as a new threat arises in the form of demon Neron. This powerful entity had previously been banished by John during a performance at Heyworld, where humans were meant to become more accepting of magical beings. Adding to their troubles, Time Bureau member Gary Green falls under Neron’s control. Eventually, the Legends are able to defeat Neron but not without consequences. Zari’s timeline is altered and her place as a Legend and wielder of the Air Totem is taken over by her brother Behrad.

During the fifth season, John’s failed exorcism mistakenly banished Astra Logue to Hell. She then revives infamous historical figures referred to as ‘Encores’. As the Legends uncover the truth about Charlie, they also learn that she is one of the three Fates, named Clotho, who is being chased by her sisters in order to regain control over the Loom of Fate. After assisting in defeating both the Fates and Encores, Mona, Ray, Nora, and Charlie decide to depart from the team. However, Astra has a change of heart and decides to join forces with the Legends. John offers her a place to stay and his guidance as a mentor. In the concluding scene, Sara mysteriously vanishes after being hit by an unknown ray.

In season six, it is revealed that Sara was kidnapped and taken by Gary and his fiancé Kayla, both of whom are aliens. Her abduction was orchestrated by a scientist named Bishop, who also created the Avas. He has plans to create an unbeatable warrior by combining Sara’s DNA and memories with those of other aliens, after claiming to have foreseen the downfall of humanity. In her attempt to escape, Sara unintentionally unleashes a group of aliens into different points in time, among them Kayla, who ends up romantically involved with Mick. The Legends enlist Esperanza ‘Spooner’ Cruz, a reclusive individual with the ability to telepathically communicate with aliens after her own abduction experience, to help them search for Sara while repelling alien invasions throughout Earth’s past.

In season seven, the Legends strive to return to their own time following the Waverider’s damage. While Astra inadvertently transforms Gideon into a human, the team travels to New York City in search of scientist Gwyn Davies who supposedly invented a new type of time travel. Additionally, a younger Bishop had previously copied Gideon and regained some memories after having his mind wiped. As Bishop assumes the role of Time Master, he realizes that the Legends may not be as terrible as he initially believed and goes against his Gideon copy. After Bishop’s selfless act, the Legends face off against robot clones created by Gideon’s technology and Bishop’s cloning technology. Once they defeat the clones, the team focuses on saving Gwyn’s partner Alun Thomas from dying during World War I while also confronting fixer Mike who steals the Waverider. Unfortunately, this mission results in Nate losing his powers.
