He establishes himself as a guest of Duke Lambert at his villa and reveals his intentions to the Duke. However, Death’s heart is captured by the lovely Grazia. Unfortunately, Duke Lambert (the father of Grazia’s mortal lover Corrado) pleads with him to let go of Grazia and depart from her life among the living.
Death faces a difficult choice – pursuing his own happiness or sacrificing it for Grazia’s sake. After hearing the Duke and his guests plead with him, Death ultimately chooses to spare Grazia and reverts back to his usual form of a dark shadow. As he gets ready to leave, Grazia surprises him by deciding to go with him, revealing that she had always known his true identity. In a declaration of love triumphing over deceit, Death declares that love is as powerful as death itself. He then wraps his arm around Grazia and in a burst of light, they vanish together.
