Deconstructing Harry (1997)
Deconstructing Harry (1997) is a dark comedy film from the United States that Woody Allen wrote, directed, and acted in. One evening, Lucy hails a taxi to visit Harry Block, a well-known author in Manhattan. Recently finishing his latest book, Lucy is upset to see that her own affair with Harry has been used as inspiration for the character Leslie’s affair with her sister’s husband Ken. Enraged by this public portrayal of their relationship, Lucy pulls out a gun she had concealed in her purse and threatens to take her own life. She then turns the weapon on Harry and begins shooting at him. As he runs away from her onto the roof of his building, he claims that he has already been punished enough: his girlfriend Fay has left him for his best friend Larry.
In an effort to distract Lucy from hurting either of them, Harry tells her about another story he is currently working on: the tale of a young man named Harvey who is consumed by thoughts of sex and ends up mistakenly facing Death after visiting a prostitute. During therapy, Harry comes to the realization that he has not changed since his sex-obsessed youth. He mentions his upcoming honoring ceremony at his former university in upstate New York, expressing disappointment over not having anyone to share it with. After the session, Harry approaches his ex-wife and previous therapist Joan about taking their son Hilliard to the ceremony. However, she declines, citing Harry’s negative influence on their child.
