Despicable Me 2 (2013)

The American animated comedy film, Despicable Me 2 (2013), produced by Illumination Entertainment and distributed by Universal Pictures, follows the story of a mysterious aircraft that steals PX-41, a highly potent mutagen, from a secret laboratory in the Arctic Circle. Upon learning of this theft, Silas Ramsbottom, director of the Anti-Villain League (AVL), enlists the help of Lucy Wilde to recruit former supervillain Gru. Despite being forcibly brought to AVL headquarters, Gru is asked by Ramsbottom to aid in tracking down the culprit and recovering the mutagen. However, Gru declines, stating that he has now taken on a more legitimate role as a father and owner of a jelly-producing business. Later on, his friend and assistant Dr. Nefario resigns to accept a villainous job offer, which ultimately prompts Gru to reluctantly join forces with the AVL. Tasked with their mission at the Paradise Shopping Mall disguised as owners of a cupcake store, Gru and Lucy must work together to accomplish their goal.

Gru immediately suspects that Mexican restaurant owner Eduardo Pérez may be ‘El Macho’, a supervillain believed to have perished by riding a shark into an active volcano with 250 pounds of TNT strapped to his chest. He and Lucy secretly enter Eduardo’s restaurant at night, but find no evidence to support their theory. Meanwhile, Gru’s three adopted daughters- Margo, Edith, and Agnes- who long for a mother figure, hope that Gru will develop romantic feelings for Lucy. However, Gru insists that their relationship is strictly professional. Despite his initial focus on Eduardo as the main suspect, Gru agrees to explore other leads such as the shop of wig merchant Floyd Eaglesan. During their investigation, Lucy uncovers traces of PX-41. Later on, when they attend Eduardo’s son Antonio’s Cinco de Mayo party and see him wooing Margo, Gru becomes more suspicious of Eduardo. After Lucy rescues Gru from a disastrous blind date, they grow closer and begin to bond.
