Dolan’s Cadillac (2009) is a Canadian crime film that features an all-star cast, including Wes Bentley, Christian Slater and Emmanuelle Vaugier. It tells the story of Tom Robinson, a middle school history teacher living in Las Vegas with his beloved wife Elizabeth. During a horseback riding trip in the desert, Elizabeth stumbles upon a human trafficking operation turned deadly when gangster Jimmy Dolan kills two Coyotes and one illegal alien. In her escape from Dolan’s men, Elizabeth drops her phone which they find and use to track her down. To make matters worse, she receives a gruesome threat in the form of a murdered individual with sewn lips left in their home. Fearful for their safety, the Robinsons turn to authorities who provide them with protection through the Witness Protection Program. One night, Elizabeth wakes up feeling nauseous and takes it as a hopeful indication of pregnancy.
Full of anticipation, she hurries out of their hotel to purchase pregnancy tests, with Tom trailing behind her. As she attempts to start their vehicle, it suddenly explodes, resulting in her death while Tom looks on in shock. Grief-stricken, Tom turns to alcohol and eventually decides to seek revenge against Dolan. He acquires a massive Smith & Wesson Model 500 handgun and proceeds to tail Dolan around town before ultimately targeting him one evening. However, his plan is foiled as a rival company of Dolan’s unleashes a drive-by shooting, which proves unsuccessful due to the bulletproof design of Dolan’s Cadillac. Persistent in his pursuit, Robinson continues to monitor Dolan’s actions until he becomes aware of Robinson’s identity. The two finally come face-to-face at a rest stop in the Nevada desert and engage in a confrontation that concludes with Dolan sparing Robinson’s life (although leaving him severely injured), believing that living would be more agonizing for Robinson than dying.
