Don’s Plum (2001) is a black-and-white independent drama film helmed by R. D. Robb. Despite being blocked from release in the U.S. and Canada, due to claims from DiCaprio and Maguire that they had only agreed to star in a short film rather than a full-length feature, the movie follows a group of young male friends in their early twenties who gather at Don’s Plum, a popular Los Angeles restaurant, every Saturday night. The group enjoys bringing along new female companions they have recently met. One of the friends, Ian, is seen trying to bring a woman he met at a jazz bar to join them at the diner. After being rejected twice, he turns to his acquaintance waitress, Juliette. Meanwhile, Amy finds herself stranded after her boyfriend kicks her out of their car and ends up hitchhiking until she is picked up by Jeremy, an ambitious actor.

As for Derek, another friend of Ian’s, he reconnects with an old acquaintance named Leon who becomes upset after Derek ignores his rambling and declines his invitation to hang out while focusing on trying to call a girl instead. Brad, Ian, Derek’s, and Jeremy’s mutual bisexual acquaintance, finishes hooking up with Sara and asks her to join them for some quality time together. Sara agrees on the condition that they act like strangers who just met. During their dinner, they all take turns introducing themselves before engaging in lively conversation and ordering food from their bubbly server Flo. However, as the night goes on, they discover that Flo hates her job and puts on a fake facade to please her boss. She also sleeps with the owner, Don, in hopes of getting a better schedule.
