Doom (2005), a science fiction film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, is loosely based on the video game series of the same name by id Software. In 2026, a wormhole portal known as the Ark is discovered deep below the Nevada desert, leading to an ancient city on Mars. Two decades later, the 85 personnel at Union Aerospace Corporation’s (UAC) research facility on Mars are ambushed by an unknown attacker. In response to a distress call from Dr. Carmack, a team of eight marines is dispatched to the facility. The group includes squad leader Sgt. Asher ‘Sarge’ Mahonin as well as ‘Duke’, ‘Goat’, ‘Destroyer’, Portman, ‘Mac’, ‘Kid’, and John ‘Reaper’ Grimm. Their mission? To search for and eliminate any threats on Mars while UAC is solely focused on retrieving computer data from their experiments in anthropology, archeology, and genetics.

Using the Ark to travel to Mars, the team orders the Earth site to be placed on lockdown. Upon reaching their destination, they are met by UAC employee ‘Pinky’. Reaper reunites with his twin sister, Dr. Sam Grimm, and accompanies her as she retrieves vital data. He is informed that a dig site, where their parents were accidentally killed years ago, had been reopened and revealed ancient skeletons belonging to a genetically enhanced humanoid race with an artificial 24th chromosome pair. As they search for any remaining survivors in the facility, the marines come across a traumatized and injured Dr. Carmack who is taken to the medical lab for treatment but later disappears. During their exploration, they encounter an unknown creature in the genetics lab which forces them into the facility’s sewer system where it attacks and kills Goat.
