Dragged Across Concrete (2018)
Dragged Across Concrete (2018) is a riveting neo-noir crime thriller written and directed by S. Craig Zahler. Set in the fictional city of Bulwark, the film follows Henry Johns, a recently paroled individual who confronts his mother about her return to prostitution and drug use before meeting up with his brother Ethan, who has a disability. Meanwhile, Detectives Brett Ridgeman and Anthony Lurasetti find themselves suspended without pay from their police department due to a video that exposes their use of excessive force on a drug dealer. In dire need of money, Ridgeman hopes to move his family to a safer neighborhood while Lurasetti hesitates to propose to his girlfriend Denise. A tip from Friedrich, a wealthy businessman involved in criminal activities, leads Ridgeman to enlist Lurasetti’s help in surveilling and robbing professional thief Lorentz Vogelmann.
Henry and his childhood friend Biscuit are hired by Vogelmann as getaway drivers. Their associates, Black Gloves and Grey Gloves, have been busy robbing banks in order to acquire a specially-armored van. In their latest heist, Vogelmann and his crew take hostages at a bank, including a returning employee named Kelly Summer. Tragically, Kelly is killed by the robbers for trying to stop a coworker from alerting the police. During their escape, the thieves also injure the bank manager and flee with both gold bullion and another hostage named Cheryl. Meanwhile, detectives Ridgeman and Lurasetti are on their trail, which is noticed by Henry. However, after witnessing the brutal actions of Vogelmann’s gang, Henry and Biscuit reluctantly surrender their weapons.
