DreamWorks Dragons (2012–2014), is an American computer-animated TV show based on the 2010 movie How to Train Your Dragon. Acting as a link between the first film and its 2014 sequel, it was declared by Cartoon Network on October 12, 2010. Tim Johnson, executive producer of the film, shared that the series aimed to be more intense and thought-provoking compared to previous spin-offs from DreamWorks Animation, carrying a similar tone to the original movie. Unlike previous adaptations aired on Nickelodeon, Dragons marked the first DreamWorks Animation series to premiere on Cartoon Network. The series debuted with a one-hour sneak peek featuring two episodes on August 7, 2012, followed by its official release on September 5, 2012. Cartoon Network aired a total of 40 episodes over the course of two seasons, titled Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk respectively.
After Hiccup and his trusty Night Fury, Toothless, successfully defeated the Red Death and saved the people of Berk, they inspired their fellow Vikings to establish a peaceful relationship with dragons. However, they soon discover that coexisting is not without challenges, as Viking prejudice and dragon instincts threaten to break the alliance. In order to address this issue, Hiccup’s father, Stoick the Vast, arranges for the creation of the Berk Dragon Academy. Here, Hiccup and his friends can gain knowledge about dragons and how to peacefully coexist with them. Despite facing opposition from pessimistic individuals like Mildew and dangerous foes such as Alvin the Treacherous, the young Vikings of Berk and their dragon companions remain determined to achieve a crucial understanding.
