Dreamcatcher (2003) is an American science fiction horror film, based on Stephen King’s novel from two years prior. Four friends – Jonesy, Beaver, Pete, and Henry – are taking their annual hunting trip in Maine. As children, they all obtained telepathic abilities which they refer to as ‘the line’, after protecting a boy named Douglas ‘Duddits’ Cavell from bullies and becoming his friend. One night, Jonesy receives a message from Duddits to cross the street, but as he does so, he gets hit by a car. However, his injuries miraculously heal within six months and he is able to join the group for their yearly excursion. During their trip, Jonesy and Beaver come across a lost man in the forest named Rick McCarthy who is gravely ill. They offer him shelter in their cabin until he recovers.
Suddenly, all sorts of animals start running past their cabin – prey and predator alike – moving in one direction. This odd scene is followed by two military helicopters declaring that the area is now under quarantine. Jonesy and Beaver return to the cabin to discover a trail leading from the bedroom to the bathroom. There, Rick’s lifeless body lays drenched in blood. A three-foot long creature with a worm-like appearance thrashes and shrieks inside the toilet. In an attempt to contain it, Beaver sits on top of the lid, but the creature manages to break free and fatally injures him. Jonesy attempts to flee but is met by a towering extraterrestrial entity known as Mr. Gray, who takes control of his body.
