Dredd (2012) is a sci-fi action flick helmed by director Pete Travis and written/produced by Alex Garland. Set in future America, the country has become an irradiated wasteland. The East Coast, stretching from Boston to Washington DC, is home to Mega City One – a sprawling and violent metropolis controlled by criminals. The only law and order comes from the ‘Judges’, urban cops with the authority of judge, jury, and executioner. Dredd, known and feared throughout the city, serves as the top Judge and faces his biggest challenge yet – eradicating a dangerous epidemic of a drug called ‘Slo-Mo’. While on a regular workday, Dredd is tasked with training Cassandra Anderson – a rookie endowed with psychic abilities due to her genetic mutation.
A despicable act summons them to a district that even their fellow Judges avoid – a towering slum overseen by former prostitute turned drug kingpin Ma-Ma and her merciless henchmen. After apprehending a member of the gang, Ma-Ma seizes control of the compound’s command center and launches a ferocious attack on the Judges, showing she will do whatever it takes to safeguard her reign. As casualties rise and escape seems impossible, Dredd and Anderson must face the challenge head on, fighting relentlessly for their very lives.
