Road Trip (2000), an American sex comedy directed by Todd Phillips and written by Scot Armstrong and Phillips, follows the story of college student Barry as he guides prospective students and their families around his campus. Along the way, he shares anecdotes about his friends. Childhood pals Josh Parker and Tiffany Henderson enter into a long-distance relationship as they attend different universities – Josh at the University of Ithaca and Tiffany at the University of Austin. However, their once passionate romance begins to struggle when they struggle with maintaining regular communication. Insecurity arises for Josh when he is unable to reach Tiffany frequently through phone calls. In response, he starts sending her video messages in an attempt to quell his fears of infidelity.

Before heading to his Ancient Philosophy class, Josh enlists the help of his friend and roommate Rubin to send his latest tape to Tiffany. His professor has informed him that securing a B+ on his mid-term is crucial for passing the class. E.L., Josh’s close friend, advises him to let go of his worries about Tiffany and pay attention to Beth Wagner instead. It turns out that Beth has feelings for Josh, causing Jacob, an egotistical T.A. in the Ancient Philosophy department, to become jealous. At a party thrown by E.L., several female students are auctioned off, including Beth. Fearing Jacob’s reactions, she urges Josh to bid against him.
