Eat Pray Love (2010)
The movie Eat Pray Love (2010), based on the memoir of the same name by Elizabeth Gilbert, portrays a woman named Liz in her journey of self-discovery. Despite having a husband, house, and successful career, Liz feels lost and uncertain about her true desires. She asks for a divorce from her husband, Stephen, who struggles to accept it. During this time, she has a brief relationship with David, an actor. Newly divorced and unsure of where to go next, Liz takes a daring trip to Italy, India and Bali. In Italy, she indulges in the pleasures of eating pasta and gelato for four months and even learns Italian from a private tutor introduced by a Swedish friend. Just before leaving for India, they celebrate Thanksgiving together.
Liz heads to an ashram where she first experiences the power of prayer. In addition to mass prayer sessions and honoring their guru, she is also assigned the chore of scrubbing floors. ‘Texas Richard’ keeps her on her toes and offers support during her stay. When he moves on, Liz is reassigned to greeting and orienting new arrivals. Feeling more centered, she continues her journey to Bali, Indonesia a year later. To her surprise, she runs into Ketut once again. He gives her various tasks to complete. While cycling one day, Liz is unfortunately run off the road by Felipe, a Brazilian traveler. She seeks help from Wayan, a healer and homeopath in the village, for a bad gash on her leg. It is there that she meets another Brazilian named Armenia who encourages her to go back to the village that evening for some dancing at the Beach Shack.
