Elvis Has Left the Building (2004)
The black comedy film, Elvis Has Left the Building (2004), directed by Joel Zwick features a star-studded cast. Kim Basinger plays a cosmetics saleswoman who unknowingly ends up killing multiple Elvis impersonators while on her way to a convention in Las Vegas. The role of her love interest, an advertising executive, is portrayed by John Corbett. A surprise cameo from Tom Hanks as one of the deceased Elvis impersonators adds to the comedic tone. In her final role before 2024, Angie Dickinson plays Basinger’s mother who used to work on cars for the real Elvis.
Harmony begins her journey on a scenic drive, accompanied by Elvis tunes on the radio. Despite her success as a traveling cosmetic saleswoman for ‘Pink Lady’ seminars in the western US, she can’t shake the feeling of emptiness and superficiality in her life. When mistaken for a Mary Kaye lady, she clarifies that they are different shades of pink. Though popular and accomplished in her job, Harmony can’t escape the lack of authenticity and sincerity in her life. As she travels across the country, searching for what’s missing, she unintentionally causes the death of several Elvis impersonators. To complicate things further, she is pursued romantically by Miles.
