End of Watch (2012)
End of Watch (2012) is an American action thriller film written and directed by David Ayer. It follows the story of Los Angeles Police Department officers Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala, who are not only close friends but also partners in the LAPD’s Newton Division. The two are responsible for patrolling a high crime area in South Central. Taylor, a Marine Corps veteran, documents their duty as part of a college project following their return from an officer-involved shooting. During a public disturbance call, Tre, a member of the Bloods gang, directs racial slurs at Zavala, who responds by agreeing to engage in a one-on-one fistfight. After winning the fight, Zavala earns Tre’s respect for not pressing charges against him for assault. Later that night, Tre and other members of the Bloods are targeted in a drive-by shooting by their rival gang, the Mexican-American Curbside Gang.
The next evening, while responding to a noise complaint at a house party, Taylor and Zavala come across ‘Big Evil’ and ‘LaLa’, members of the Curbside Gang. While conducting a traffic stop, a man is apprehended for possessing multiple intricately designed firearms and significant sums of money. Taylor encourages Zavala to assist him in delving deeper into the situation, ultimately leading them to encounter another individual who appears to be safeguarding a residence filled with victims of human trafficking. The arrival of ICE agents reveals that the house is connected to the Sinaloa Cartel and the officers are advised to exercise caution due to potential retaliation. In the midst of all this, Taylor proposes to his girlfriend Janet and Zavala’s spouse Gabby delivers their first baby.
