Endless Love (2014)
Endless Love (2014) is an American romantic drama film directed by Shana Feste and co-written by Feste with Joshua Safran. It tells the story of Jade Butterfield and David Elliot, who both recently graduated from the same Atlanta high school. Despite being in the same class for four years, they never had a chance to get to know each other. Jade comes from a wealthy family, with her father Hugh being a cardiologist and her mother Anne being a published novelist. She has dedicated herself to academic pursuits in hopes of following in her father’s footsteps, as he had always hoped his eldest son Chris would do before his untimely death during their senior year from cancer. Jade’s older brother Keith, who was the middle child, chose not to succumb to their father’s pressure and thus is often neglected.
Jade, known as the ‘ice princess’ by her classmates for not socializing, was recently offered an internship for the summer before starting at Brown in the fall. This opportunity puts her on track for medical school, fulfilling her aspirations. On the other hand, David comes from a blue collar family where his widowed father, Harry Elliot, runs his own garage. Despite being academically bright, David has no interest in pursuing college and is content with working in the garage. For the past four years, he has secretly admired Jade from afar but lacked the courage to approach her. Although he never saw Jade in that light during high school, David yearns for true love like that of his parents until his mother’s passing.
