Enemy (2013), a neo-noir surrealist psychological thriller, was directed by Denis Villeneuve and produced by M.A. Faura and Niv Fichman. The protagonist of the film, a quiet and routine-driven history professor named Adam Bell, attends an underground club where an erotic performance leads to a woman almost crushing a live tarantula with her platform high-heel. After being recommended the film Where There’s a Will There’s a Way by a colleague, Adam becomes intrigued when he sees an actor who bears a striking resemblance to himself briefly appear as a bellhop. This actor is later identified as Daniel Saint Claire, also known as Anthony Claire. Consumed by his curiosity, Adam rents the other two films featuring Anthony and becomes increasingly obsessed with him, due to their physical likeness. In the midst of this obsession, Adam stumbles upon a photo of someone who looks like him with a woman’s hand resting on his shoulder while searching through some boxes at home.

However, a torn section of the photo makes it impossible to identify the woman. Adam continues his pursuit of Anthony by visiting his talent agency and receiving a confidential letter while posing as him. Eventually, Adam finds himself in Anthony’s apartment in Mississauga where he calls the home. However, his call is answered by Anthony’s pregnant wife, Helen, who mistakes him for Anthony and assumes it’s a prank. Despite Adam’s attempts to explain his true identity, Helen becomes frightened and he quickly ends the call. In a later attempt to reach Anthony, Adam finally succeeds but is met with suspicion from Anthony who believes he is being stalked. Helen also questions Anthony about Adam’s existence but he claims to know nothing about him. Still doubtful, Helen decides to do some research on her own and eventually discovers where Adam teaches at college before finding him there.
