Entrapment (1999)
Entrapment (1999), a caper film directed by Jon Amiel and written by Ronald Bass, follows the story of Virginia ‘Gin’ Baker, an investigator for Waverly Insurance. When a priceless Rembrandt painting is stolen from a New York office building one night, Gin sets her sights on Robert ‘Mac’ MacDougal as a potential suspect. She believes him to be a skilled international art thief and pursues him relentlessly. Despite Gin’s suspicions and persistence, Mac confronts her and reveals that he knows she is investigating him. In an unexpected twist, Gin claims to be a thief herself and proposes they work together to steal a valuable Chinese mask from the heavily guarded Bedford Palace.
Mac agrees and they travel to his secluded castle on a Scottish island to plan and train for the heist with the help of their only trusted ally, Aaron Thibadeaux. However, as they prepare for the theft, Mac remains cautious of Gin’s true intentions and fends off her romantic advances while they clash repeatedly during training. As Mac finalizes the arrangements, Gin calls her manager, Hector Cruz, from a payphone to brief him on the situation. Unbeknownst to them, Mac has bugged the entire island and is eavesdropping. They enter Bedford Palace together and Gin skillfully navigates through security lasers, having rehearsed this for weeks. She successfully steals the mask and they make their escape.
